- In April 2018, at the Fukuoka Institute of Technology, the Knowledge and Liberal Arts program was opened to all three majors in the new curriculum for liberal arts, featuring an interdisciplinary approach. In this subject, students acquire knowledge and discuss numerous problems, thereby fostering their intellectual curiosity by developing a broad and deep understanding of various themes. This study analyzes the effects of the Knowledge and Liberal Arts program with a … focus on the development of beliefs about learning over four years of university life using a follow-up qualitative survey. A 60-minute interview was conducted with two senior students who took the course during their freshman year in 2018 to identify its contribution to their beliefs about learning. The results showed the following common experiences of both students: (1) the formation of a “new self” after entering university by unlearning and (2) expansion of learning mediated by communication with individuals in different networks. These are important insights for curriculum development in the liberal arts, which foster students’ fulfillment and success on a long-term basis. 続きを見る
